ANTON ANDERSEN NYBROTEN was born in 1862 to Anders "Andrew" Anderson Smedmoen and Anna Syversdatter Nybroten on the Nybroten farm in Holera, South Aurdal, Valdres province, Oppland, Norway in 1862. In March 1884 he immigrated to the United States and settled as a farmer in Adams township, Green County, Wisconsin.

He married Dorothea "Dora" Brattrud on January 24, 1894 in Green County, Wisconsin.

They had at least eleven children: CLARA A. (Roy Walden), OLGA "GENEVA" (Otto Rystad), CASPER A. (Stella M. Johnson), BURNETTE (twin), UNKNOWN (twin), OSCAR S. (Stella M. Walden), BORGHILD O., MAGNHILD "MUGS", DAGNY "AGNES" (John G. Foesch), VICTOR E. (Thora Haugerud), and ANTON B., plus several other embraced family members who were loved and raised in their home.

Anton had at least eight siblings: SYVER, ANN MARIE (Christian Peterson Staum), GILBERT (Alena Iversen), TONETTA (Gustav "Gus" Vinger), ANDREW (Siri G. "Galena" Gulson), ARNE (died as a baby), ARNE (Sena Gulson - Galena's sister) and KARINE (died in infancy).

On January 15, 1927, Anton passed on. His wife Dorothea died in 1970. They are buried together in Adams Cemetery, Green County, Wisconsin.

In 1919, Anton, Dorthea and Magnhild, returned to Norway for a visit. A hard bound book of the trip, was published in 1922. The book was translated to English in 1982 and this version was republished in 2010, along with photos. If interested in a copy, please contact me.
